I bought this Mai Tai because the previous ones I have used have either had too short of straps or were too diggy/uncomfortable. My husband also does not like SSC carriers, but is too impatient to wrap, and this has been his perfect middle ground. He gets the support of a FWCC with the stability and assurance that our daughter can't pop her seat of an SSC. I love that you can have the straps spread over your shoulder, or just have it bunched with the padding. I like it spread, and he does not. This makes it great for both of us. I also love it for back carries. I did find sizing it to be a little overwhelming at first, but once I got it figured out, it wasn't too bad.
I also agree that the hood is not its best feature. I don't find it to work well at all. She likes to cuddle with it like a blanket in her hand since it does not tie up high enough to be of much use.
I have used 3-4 other Mai tai type carriers and this one is by far my favorite. The biggest difference for me has been the shoulder straps, the padding is just enough and when I spread out the strap over my shoulder it helps distribute the weight. I was concerned that it may be too hot, but I've already used the carrier for a 5 hour zoo trip in 85 degree weather and my 6 month old and I were both comfortable. There was a learning curve because the Fidella is height and width adjustable, but once you have it the right size it's just as easy to put on as any other Mai Tai.
The only part I'm not 100% happy with is the hood but it works well enough.
